After conversing with my old shipmate Grey, he got the idea in my head to keep a journal of my adventures.
Apparently it keeps you from going mad. ha ha. Life at sea doesn't drive all men mad, they have to be mad first themselves to go mad... I think...
Anyway, I'm aboard my ship the Sea Wind, on route to the new world. They say it has treasures beyond anything that can be imagined! I can feel the doubloons right now...
This morning was a trip in itself, as you see dear reader (I would think it would be neat to talk as if to a person) the main reason for this trip is to win the hand of the lovely Lady Gwendolyn, a noblewoman who seems to have taken a liking to me, but refuses a man who is without funds.
As a pirate, I should have the money now shouldn't I? But alas, I am weak with the heart of gold, I give the treasure to those in need of it, and there is quite a bit who do.
The day started off when I awoke to a loud thumping at my door, a noise I am not too fond of in the early mornings. I raised my head to tell the brute to leave my door alone but found it too late as the man was already inside the house at the doorway of my room.
Grey always was impatient.
"Wake up!" He shouted, "Tis' the morn of the sail!"
"I know, but it's not till this afternoon the sail is off." I replied, trying to get him to leave by lying back down.
I should have remembered about Grey, he's a child.
"Wake up Robert! I ain't here to bother ya, I promise!"
Funny how at that time he was bothering me.
"Fine, I'll wake." I finally gave in and in seconds it felt like was sitting at the table with Grey breaking the night's fast.
"What'cha think we're goin' to find in the New World?" Grey inquired, his strong hands munching the air in anticipation.
Before I answered him I took a moment to reflect on my life and how Grey was practically my younger brother growing up... except that he was always taller and stronger than me.
But in terms of brains... well... you get the picture.
"The rumors are grand." I started, "Some say the ground is made of gold, others say certain relics and ancient places grant all your wishes. Soon we shall find out what lie in those lands."
The answer seemed to make Grey's eyes grow three times bigger and he gasped at the mention of the wishes.
It wasn't long after that conversation did I find myself walking down the street on my way to the docks to prepare for sail.
Grey had to go on his own way to find his mistress and his children to wish them a farewell. I envied that joy. But I knew that soon it would change and I would find myself rich, and wed to Lady Gwendolyn and live out my days happy.
I didn't think she knew about me until she heard about the expedition in truth.
I wish I could see her and have her wish me a well journey. I only have Grey at this point. And that's not too happy to have...
For now that is all I will be writing. Right now I am currently at the dock about to set sail. The crew is working hard for their treasures.
Next time I write I will be at sea on the waves to treasures galor!
